Incentives for retrofit technologies
Under its Power Smart program BC Hydro offers incentives for certain retrofit technologies in specific applications. The three main programs supporting LED retrofits of buildings are the:
- Business Energy Savings Incentive (BESI)1
- Social Housing Retrofit Support Program (SHRSP)2
- BC Non Profit Housing Association (BCNPHA)3
These are both prescriptive rules-based programs that subsidize the retrofits with cash payments provided by BC Hydro.
BESI is generally available for any commercial building including multi-dwelling condominium or rental apartment buildings. SHRSP provides even more generous rebates for buildings that fall under a social housing designation under programs coordinated by the BC Non-Profit Housing Association (BCNPHA)3. This includes elderly care facilities.
To ensure the quality and performance of LED retrofits, firms providing the technologies and undertaking the retrofit contracts must be members of the BC Hydro Alliance of Energy Professionals.
Greenlight Canada is an Alliance member under both distributor (product supply) and contractor categories. Under the distributor category Greenlight is able to supply products that are listed in BC Hydro’s e-catalog which is a pre-requisite for technologies that are eligible for incentives or rebates under the BESI and SHRSP programs.
Under the contractor category Greenlight is able to undertake turn-key retrofit projects and ensure its client get the maximum available incentives and rebates.
