About Greenlight Canada

Greenlight Canada Enterprise Ltd (Greenlight) was founded in 2016 with the goal of replacing lighting systems in commercial buildings with modern LED technology. By 2019, Greenlight was focusing these efforts on British Columbia’s elder care facilities. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it halted our installation work in these facilities due to safety concerns for people who live and work in these facilities.

In April 2020, Greenlight decided to pivot its business model in order to focus on designing and manufacturing UV-C disinfectors. We expect these to be in high demand from our institutional and commercial building clients as part of their pandemic response, including against future outbreaks.

What is a UV-C disinfector?

A UV-C disinfector is made of germicidal lamps, ballasts, and electrical controls packaged inside a sheet metal enclosure. In many ways, they are similar to fluorescent light fixture technology, which Greenlight is very familiar with.

Using Industry Expertise to Launch the UVY Line

Using supply chain and import business expertise from the LED retrofit business, Greenlight has been able to capably pivot to this new manufacturing business activity.

In early 2021 the design process started for the UVY-Combo model (part of the UVY brand name), which would be both a UV-C chamber for disinfecting objects, and an air filtration unit. This unique and innovative product is expected to have wide applications in many institutional and commercial building settings.

The Future of Greenlight’s UV-C Business

In August 2021 Greenlight was chosen to receive funding from the BC government under its new Accelerating Manufacturing Scale-Up Grant program. This grant will help them to complete the development of the UVY product line and plan for an assembly facility in Vancouver where their UVY brand of products will be fabricated. Production is expected to begin in mid 2022.

The UVY line of products will be complemented by other, high-quality, UV-C technology products from other manufacturers serving different applications.
